In spite of limited attendance from Venture throughout the season, the title draught of season 6 has been ended. As season 7 concludes, VRT has reclaimed both individual and team interceptor championships.
With the last race of the season finished, here follows a brief recap of the events of Season 7.
The first race of the racing circuit for Season 7 started out of the Molden Heath region, and would also turn out to be the only race in quite a while in which Venture would field more than a single racer on the track. Venture team owner, Takashi Kurosawa, returned to the track after having been absent for the entire duration of Season 6. Spectators followed Kurosawa closely, as murmurs grew that the Venture veteran might not be able to keep up with the competition, considering his long absence, and technical limitations imposed on ships during his absence. While seemingly a bit rusty, Kurosawa still managed to turn in a respectable 2nd place finish, with Kayleigh Jamieson of Scuderia Dragonstar taking home the top spot in the interceptor class. Also racing for Venture on this occasion were Renaika Verinaisi (Malediction-class interceptor) and Ezekiel Sulastin (Enyo-class assault ship). Scuderia dominated the podiums that evening, as they took home victories in all three classes. Verinaisi took home a 5th place finish in the interceptor class, while Sulastin rounded out the sparsely populated assault ship class with a 2nd place finish.
Not only winning all three classes, Scuderia Dragonstar also demonstrated that they are now the biggest team on the track by some margin. As followers of the League will know, Scuderia Dragonstar is the result of a somewhat controversial merger between former teams Scuderia Caille and Dragonstar Racing Team. A merger that definitely seems to be paying off, although some critics say that the merger of two of the biggest and most competitive teams into one, has reduced the overall competition in the League.
While the first race of the season left some indication that Venture might be back in somewhat respectable numbers after a sixth season that Venture fans will want to forget as soon as possible, it was soon evident that race 1 would not be indicative of Venture’s attendance this season. Thus, for the following nine races, team owner Kurosawa was the lone racer on part of Venture, leaving Kurosawa to break the iron grip of the League that Scuderia Dragonstar had established throughout Season 6 and would appear to continue holding in Season 7, judging by race 1.
But, while race 1 had shown a somewhat rusty, out-of-form Kurosawa, it would soon become clear that it was too early to discount the two-time interceptor champion. Kurosawa thus went on to win all nine of these races, all the while in fierce competition with Quintrala, Kayleigh Jamieson and demon flir of Scuderia Dragonstar.
In a particularly interesting race, Quintrala employed her now famous clone-jumping technique to gain a significant lead halfway through the race. It turned out to be insufficient, however, as Kurosawa slowly but surely gained on her, and eventually overtook Quintrala a few waypoints out from the finish line to keep his winning streak.
In race 11, veteran racer DeVinces made a return to the Venture roster, and Venture welcomed a new racer to its ranks, as JinJup Han debuted in a Malediction-class interceptor. Lining up alongside Kurosawa, who had switched to a Wolf-class assault ship, the three Venture pilots attempted to make a play at Quintrala’s assault ship championship, which had been uncontested since the first race of the season. Unfortunately for Venture, the combined efforts of Quintrala and demon flir proved too great of a challenge for Kurosawa and his teammates, with JinJup Han struggling to keep up with the race leaders and anchor for Kurosawa. Nonetheless, the rookie put up a commendable performance, winning the uncontested interceptor class this evening. Kurosawa and DeVinces secured 2nd and 3rd place finishes, respectively, in the assault ship class.
For race 12, acknowledging that neither the individual nor the team assault ship championship was within reach, Kurosawa switched back to his trusty Infinity MkII Malediction-class interceptor, with rookie Koronakesh joining the Venture ranks in a Retribution-class assault ship. While Kurosawa took home a win in the interceptor class ahead of Kayleigh Jamieson, Koronakesh had a very respectable debut race, finishing 5th overall.
Thus, at the end of Season 7, Venture could look back on a successful season, in which both individual and team interceptor championships had been put in what Venture and team owner Kurosawa would no doubt claim is their right place. The frigate class, dominated throughout the season by demon flir of Scuderia Dragonstar, saw no participation on part of Venture throughout the season. While the ploy to challenge Quintrala and Scuderia Dragonstar for their assault ship titles failed, Venture nonetheless ending up taking the rest of the podium in that particular class.
While details on Season 8 have yet to be announced, the Venture organization is no doubt already hard at work preparing their efforts for the next season, as they work to improve on a successful 7th season of the League. Be sure to check back here regularly, for the latest news as it happens.
